So, tell us who you are exactly?

My name is Lynne Wideline Gassant, a Human Resources Professional in the Palm Beach County area and a Job Preparation Coach at letsgethired.com. I graduated from Florida International University with a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management and from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Management. I am currently Mrs. Palm Beach County and recently competed in the Mrs. Florida United States Pageant and was placed 4th runner up.

Who has impacted you the most in life?

My father. I value his hard work and dedication to our family. He always knows how to give us an extra push to excel. I admire him and truly grateful that God chose him to be my father.

What have you accomplished so far?

In addition to education, I am the Founder of Scholar Career Coaching, a nonprofit I started in 2012 to mentor South Florida ESL students. The organization focuses on career/academic planning, life skills and financial literacy. To date, ScholarCC has mentored over 50 students and has awarded 15 scholarships. I am a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. To date, I have been nominated twice by my peers for the JM Enterprise African American Achievers Award. I have been featured on Florida Next Magazine, WomenOnTopp Blog, Bronze Magazine, EyesOnNews, Sun-Sentinel, Palm Beach State College Beachcomber, Braman Motorcars Newsletter, and Black Celebrity Giving for my volunteer involvement in the community and as a Job Preparation Coach.

Have you ever thought of going back in time to fix certain things if you could?

No, dwelling in the past won’t change anything and I do not like living in regrets. The past is the past and everything happened for a reason. I thank each day for giving me a new opportunity to become a better me and to change the things that I can control.

-Tell us about Scholar Career Coaching .
SCC’s mentoring platform assists students by partnering them with graduate students, successful professionals, and retirees in different industries. Through our after-school mentoring program and many other resources, we coach and motivate the special group of students that concurrently show high need and high potential. Scholar Career Coaching’s mission is to coach, motivate and support South Florida high school students, particularly students who speak English as a second language (ESL).
-What did motivate you to start such a project like that?

I came to Florida from Haiti at the age of 14 where understanding the language was half of my battle. I struggled throughout middle and high school yet managed to maintain good academic standing and transitioned to secondary school. Since my parents were unfamiliar with the educational system, it was hard to figure out “what’s next?” for my future. Following my undergraduate studies, I had a strong desire and willingness to give back to the community and to hopefully make a difference in the lives of ESL students. That’s why this project started.

-How do you motivate yourself when things don’t go the way you’ve planned them?
I usually have high expectations and if or when things do not go accordingly it can be difficult. First, I always send a little prayer. I love listening to Les Brown and Eric Thomas, they are great Motivational speakers.

-What do you find the most frustrating aspect as being Mrs. Palm Beach County?

No frustration at all. It was an honor to represent Palm Beach County and I did my best! I look forward to competing again next year if God willing in a different pageant system and hopefully bring the crown home.

-What’s your long term and short term goals for ScholarCC?

We have few projects pending/in the works. I hope to have ScholarCC fully funded by grants and have the ability to start a stipend program for our volunteers. Check out ScholarCC to learn more and to stay posted.

-Any advice for our young people reading this?

Yes, my advice is simple. Trust God, Believe in your Dreams, don’t be Afraid of Challenges or Afraid of trying something New and be Persistent.
